DEBORAH MEYERS
“When you love someone, you give them jewellery. Always.” – Deborah Meyers
Deborah’s love affair with jewellery began at a young age—watching her mother get dressed for her Saturday night date with her father, waiting for the jewellery decision, and rifling through grandma Belle’s flowered jewellery box.
Going from a young appreciator of jewellery to a goldsmith in later years happened through sheer synchronicity. Deborah took a job at the now-defunct children’s toy store FAO Schwarz, as a product demonstrator. She was given a box of beads and a pair of jeans. Two hours later she sold them all out! Having felt so at home as she stood there beading, it sparked a curiosity about her own abilities with design and fabrication. This moment eventually led to classes with master teachers: Mahmoud Muhawish, Chie Teratani, Valentin Yotkov and Cecelia Bauer.
For Deborah Meyers, jewellery making is a passion, a love of magical materials infused with an ineffable spirit. She is a solo practitioner and fabricates each piece in her New York studio. Her newest line explores wonderfully the marriage of oxidized sterling silver with 22 karat gold, diamonds and coloured stones.
